PMKRI Timika Launches KAMORO Book, Community Culture and Social Change

goodmorningpapua.com- The Timika Santa Theresia branch of the Indonesian Catholic Student Association (PMKRI) launched and reviewed the book KAMORO, Community Culture and Social Change. The activity was carried out at a hotel in Timika, Central Papua Province, Monday 22 April 2024.

The book launch was opened by the Deputy Regent of Mimika, Johannes Rettob, by presenting the responders, namely the Professor of Sociology at Cenderawasih University, Prof. Dr. Drs. Avelinus Lefaan, MS, Kamoro Tribe Intellectual Figure, Dr. Leonardus Tumuka, S.IP., M.Si, Kamoro Community Leader, Dodunias Kapiyau, S.Sos., M.Si, Secretary General (Sekjen) of the PMKRI Central Management, Christian A.D. Rettob and Book Editor, Roberthus Yewen, S.Sos., M.Si.

Deputy Regent of Mimika, Johannes Rettob appreciated PMKRI Mimika for writing and publishing the book KAMORO, Community Culture and Social Change.

“This book can be a reading reference for all groups, especially the Mimika people, especially the Kamoro tribe,” he explained.

After reading this book, John hopes to broaden his insight and know more about the Kamoro tribe, customs and culture in Mimika Regency, Central Papua.

“For me, this book is good, but it needs to be explored further regarding the culture of the Kamoro tribe. “We can write more in depth in the future,” he said.

Chairman of the Presidium of the PMKRI Timika Santo Theresia Branch, Mersi Sundung, explained that the book KAMORO, Community Culture and Social Change will start in 2022 by presenting speakers who are seniors and unifying members of the PMKRI, as well as Kompas.com journalists and lecturers in the Cultural Journalism course at the University of Papua, Roberthus Yewen.

“After we received writing training, we continued to carry out surveys and research for 2 months by going into the field. We went to Pomako Village. “Because of accommodation constraints, we had to postpone the research,” he explained.

Even though it was delayed, the team continued the research and then compiled the book in 2023, until they finished writing the book.

“Today, we have launched and dissected the book. This is all thanks and support from all parties. “Hopefully the presence of this book will make a contribution to the Mimika Regency Regional Government and the Kamoro Tribe in the future,” said Mersi.

He stated that the various responses and input given by the respondents would be followed up by the book writing team together with the editor, so that in the future the book could be improved.

“Our team will review the book with various input from the respondents. “For the first publication, 100 copies of this book were printed,” he said.
