Citizens of Fani Island, West Papua, Protected by JKN

goodmorningpapua.com – BPJS Kesehatan ensures that the people of Fani Island, West Papua, have access to health services through the National Health Insurance Program (JKN). Fani Island is one of the 88 outermost islands in Indonesia, precisely located in the Ayau Islands District, Raja Ampat Regency, West Papua Province. Fani Island is adjacent to the Pacific Ocean which is directly adjacent to the State of Palau.

 BPJS Kesehatan handed over JKN Cards to 11 families or as many as 43 cards for the people of Kampung Reni, Ayau Islands District. The providing of this card was carried out during a working visit by the Governor of West Papua and a group of the Regional Leadership Communication Forum (Forkompida) to Fani Island, Saturday, August 13, 2022.

 The Governor of West Papua, Paulus Waterpauw, said that the Provincial Government of West Papua and the Regency / City Government continue to strive for the welfare of the people of Earth of Cendrawasih, both in terms of health and education, which are the main priorities. Health protection through the JKN Program has in fact reached the outer islands of Indonesia.

 “So, our people around Fani Island, especially Reni Village, Ayau Islands District, have been registered as JKN participants and their health is guaranteed. We also came directly to greet residents on Fani Island to find out the community’s needs, especially in terms of health services,” said the Governor.

 To get to this island it takes about 6 hours to travel by fast boat from Sorong City with a distance of about 300 nautical miles. This island is only guarded by members of the TNI-AL, while the closest area inhabited by residents is Kampung Reni which is still in the Ayau Islands area.

 Meanwhile, a Head of BPJS Kesehatan Sorong Branch, Gilang Yoga Wardanu, said that the Regional Governments of West Papua Province and Raja Ampat Regency are very committed to ensuring that all their people have health insurance. Raja Ampat Regency has received the title of Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Non Cut Off. As of June 2022, as many as 82,516 people in the Raja Ampat Regency have become JKN participants.

 â€śMore than 95 percent of the people of Raja Ampat Regency already have health insurance, including this resident of Kampung Reni who already has a JKN Card. We hope that even though it is located on the border of Indonesia, the benefits of the JKN Program can be felt by the community. People don’t have to worry about health costs anymore when they are sick. We will also continue to synergize with local governments related to fulfilling the quality of health facilities and infrastructure, especially for residents of the outer islands of the Republic of Indonesia,” said Gilang in the symbolic handover of the JKN Card which was received by representatives of the residents of Reni Village, Fani Island.

 The working visit was also in the context of the stretching of the 77-meter-long Red and White Flag and the Laying of the Stone for the Construction of the National Inscription House to welcome the 77th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia. In addition to the Governor, the symbolic handover of the JKN Card received by representatives of the Ayau Village community was witnessed by the Deputy Regent of Raja Ampat Regency, Orideko Iriano Burdam.
