goodmorningpapua.com – A Deputy Minister of Home Affairs (Wamendagri) John Wempi Wetipo conveyed four strategic things concerning with the development of the New Autonomous Region of Papua (DOB). One of them is the preparation for the 2024 Simultaneous General Election (Election) and Regional Head Election (Pilkada).

 Then, filling in the acting regional head and continuing the development of 3 New Autonomous Regions (DOB) in Papua. Then, the Draft Law (RUU) on the Establishment of the Province of Southwest Papua.

 “So I thought there were a lot of questions raised by the leaders and members of Committee I DPD RI and we have answered them,” Wempi told reporters, Jakarta, Thursday, September 1, 2022.

Wempi emphasized that the agenda for the 2024 General Election will be held on February 14, 2024. Meanwhile, the simultaneous regional elections will be held on November 27, 2024.

Wenpi said that the new autonomous region policy that had been established in Papua had been regulated in Law Number 14 of 2022. Then, Law Number 15 of 2022 and Law Number 16 of 2022. For him, currently the policy for the development of 3 new autonomous regions in Papua is continue to be refined.

It is mainly related to the government transition period and other technical preparations. With these efforts, it is hoped that all processes can run well and can provide welfare for the people of Papua.

 He ensured that the government had conducted a comprehensive discussion with the DPR regarding the Southwest Papua Bill which is currently underway. The process of drafting the bill is expected to be completed on time.

 “We hope that according to the schedule that has been set, it can be mutually agreed upon, so that it can be passed into law in the future,” he asserted.
