goodmorningpapua.com – Dozens of students from several regions such as Papua, NTT and Java joining the Yogyakarta Nusantara Youth Forum held a peaceful demonstration on Jalan Sultan Agung, Pakualaman, (05/2021) afternoon. They expressed concern over the separatist action at Papua, and expected that the TNI / Polri would be present to protect Papuan people who were oppressed by such group’s action.
Jack Stenly, the Coordinator of the Action said that the forum emerged from the ever intensifying phenomenon of acts of violence and terror by armed groups in Papua against immigrants and Papuans. This is even more obvious since it is supported by a group of Papuan students of separatist sympathies continuing to advocate for separation of Papua and West Papua through demonstrations and propaganda on social media.
“We are taking action to defend humanity in the sense of strongly rejecting separatism creating polarization between students and society. Friends who are still hiding behind separatism, let us together to think positively. It would be better to build humanity together, we supply ourselves with knowledge and education to be brought back to Papua,” he said after the action on Jalan Sultan Agung, Pakualaman.
Particularly, Jack expected his fellow students, especially from Papua, to concentrate on studying and achieve knowledge during to be at Yogyakarta. Later, after graduating, you can return to Papua and develop human resources over there.
“Hopefully my younger brother still involved in the movements behind separatism can realize that we at Yogya are for studying, and later to develop Papua together again. There must be no separatist action, but be humanity one,” he continued.
The Yogyakarta Nusantara Youth Forum assesses that currently the number of terror victims from armed groups in Papua continually increase as the armed conflict between the TNI / Polri and the Papuan Armed Group broke up. The forum stated that the support for the presence of the TNI / Polri is expected to be a protector of the Papuan people who are currently under suppression from the Free Papua group.
On the other hand, at the same time, Papuan students also held a peaceful demonstration at the 0 kilometer point in Yogyakarta. They held a long march from Kusumanegara to the 0 kilometer point.
