Yoboi Village to Hold a Sago Caterpillar Festival and a Hunting

goodmorningpapua.com – A secretary of Yoboi Village, James Gustaf Tokoro, said that he would hold a Sago Caterpillar Festival and a Hunting in October 2022.

“The two events have been planned this year as a part of the successful implementation of the 6th Congress of Indigenous Peoples of the Archipelago (KMAN). The aim is to welcome them,” said James in Yoboi Village, Sentani City District, Jayapura Regency, Monday (13/6/ 2022).

The festival, said James, is to show the potential of sago, both from products to souvenirs made from sago, packaged in one such cultural activity.

While the hunting competition is intended for men and their prey, namely pigs.

“Before the implementation of KMAN and the Lake Sentani festival, this Bucaya activity to be held,” he said.

He said, in order to make this happen, his party is building communication and coordination with the Jayapura Regency Tourism Office and Papua Province.

A Head of the Tourism Office, Jhon Wicklif Tegai when confirmed via WhatsApp message replied that so far there has been no information from the festival organizers.

“The name of the Sago Caterpillar Festival has been changed to the Sago Caterpillar Culinary Performance, so it’s a kind of mini event, not a festival,” he said.

Meanwhile, the first Sago Caterpillar Festival was held on 26-28 November 2020 as a form of exploiting natural potential.
