goodmorningpapua.com – A Deputy Chairman of Commission IX of the House of of the Republic of Indonesia (RI), Melkiades Laka Lena, said the province of West Papua has many potential plants with high commodities. This was conveyed by Melki when leading the working visit of the Commission IX DPR RI to review the Food and Drug Supervisory Agency (POM) in Manokwari, West Papua, Monday (21/2/2022).
“There are so many plants being able to be a very high commodity, both for the community as producers, whether it is managed by micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), or managed on a medium and large scale,” he said in a written statement, Tuesday (22/2/2022).
He assessed that these plant commodities could improve the welfare of the people in Manokwari, West Papua, if they were fostered, guided, and accompanied by BPOM. Furthermore, Melki explained, the task of BPOM West Papua is actually not only to supervise drugs, cosmetics, vitamins, food, beverages, fast food or raw materials, but more than that.
He conveyed, the main tasks and functions (tupoksi) of BPOM must be developed to provide added value for the surrounding community. One of the efforts can be done is to provide guidance and fostering for the community to be able to cultivate potential plants.
