Three New Autonomous Regions in Papua Inaugurated at the End of October

goodmorningpapua.com – Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian stated that three new provinces or new autonomous regions (DOB) in Papua will be inaugurated at the end of October or at the latest in early November 2022.

The inauguration will be accompanied by the inauguration of the respective governors.

“Soon, soon, in three weeks, maybe we will make it official,” said Tito after inaugurating the two acting regents of the Papua region and the acting governor of DKI Jakarta at the Ministry of Home Affairs office, Monday (17/10/2022).

To note, at this time three new provinces have been formed in Papua, namely South Papua Province, Central Papua, and Papua Mountains. The three provinces were previously included in the territory of the Papua Province.

Tito also asked the Acting Regent of Tolikara, newly appointed Marten Kagoya, to support the inauguration process and the running of the Papua Mountains Province. Because, Tolikara Regency is part of Papua Mountains.

Deputy Minister of Home Affairs (Wamendagri) John Wempi Wetipo previously stated that the inauguration of the three new provinces was deliberately rushed so that they could be included in the 2024 General Election.

“Because these three new new autonomous regions are involved in the process of organizing the 2024 Simultaneous Elections, we will speed up the inauguration and inauguration of the acting governor. If there are no obstacles, it means the end of October,” Wempi said at the KPU office, Friday (14/10/ 2022).
