The Vice President Hopes NU in Papua Upholds the Values of Tolerance and Humanity

goodmorningpapua.com – Vice President, Ma’ruf Amin, hopes that the presence of Nahdlatul Ulama in Papua will continue to adhere to the principles of building goodness and benefit as well as uphold the values of tolerance and humanity. This was conveyed by Ma’ruf when inaugurating the Mimika Nahdlatul Ulama (PCNU) branch office, Central Papua, Wednesday (11/30/2022).

“When there are steps that are unfair, not beneficial, not mercy, intolerant, and also do not respect humanity, those are not Islamic teachings that are adhered to by NU,” said Ma’ruf, quoted from a press release.

“I am proud as (NU) here can build cooperation (with) the government, build tolerance with other residents, also with other religions, because that is the teaching that was built by NU,” he said. The former Rais Aam of PBNU said, NU’s presence should be like someone securing a thorn in the road so that it won’t be stepped on or endangered others.

“This thorn means anything that gets in the way, causing harm, including conflicts, must also be eliminated,” said Ma’ruf.

The former chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council also asked the PCNU of Mimika to work together with the local government in doing good and benefit. Ma’ruf said this was a part of NU’s dedication to the nation and state of Indonesia. “Because from the beginning, NU was founded in order to serve Allah, and to the nation and state. That’s why it is in NU embedded hubbul wathan minal iman, love for the motherland is part of faith,” he said.
