The Island with the Most Languages in Indonesia, Papua Number One

goodmorningpapua.com – Indonesia consists of various islands with different local languages. But if you look at the number of languages, which island has the most languages?

Based on data from the Mapping Results of the Center for Development and Protection (1991-2019), local languages in Indonesia that have been identified and validated are 718 languages and 2,560 regions.

From the data for the seven islands, the island with the largest area in Indonesia, namely Papua, ranks first. Papua has 428 languages.

While the second largest has a number that is very far from Papua, namely the Maluku island with 90 languages. The third is East Nusa Tenggara with 72 languages.
