goodmorningpapua.com – The Lake Sentani Festival (FDS) XII and the VI Congress of Indigenous Peoples of the Archipelago (KMAN) in Jayapura ended at the end of October 2022. These two cultural events were officially closed by the Regent of Jayapura, Mathius Awoitauw.
One of the purposes of implementing this cultural event is to improve the economy of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Jayapura, especially Papuan People (OAP).
Like the Papuan makeup artist, Deni Rumbiak who is also the owner of the Art Shop & Typical Papuan Souvenir Wadomu Art. He provides various ethnic Papuan accessories in FDS XII and KMAN VI.
Deni Rumbiak and members of his art gallery also opened a booth at the FDS sugar palm in the Kalkote Beach Tourism Area, Nolokla Village, East Sentani District, Jayapura Regency.
For him, makeup is one of the attractions that attracts many visitors during the cultural events of FDS XII and KMAN VI. “In addition to providing knick-knacks and accessories, we also apply makeup. All of our studio members can apply makeup,” said Deni.
In applying makeup, said Deni, it must be adjusted to the figure to be made up. If mothers or women, then the makeup must describe the beauty of an angel.
It’s different if he’s a man, the makeup will describe the valor and might of a man’s figure. “We apply makeup according to the situation. For ordinary makeup, it must describe serenity or joy,” he said.
It is different for hard characters, usually used for war or war dance performances. So that makeup is also not allowed.
Talking about income, Deni admitted that it was not as good as the last event. Where within 5 days of the implementation of FDS XII and KMAN VI, he was able to reap the coffers of rupiah up to Rp. 5 million.
“This year is a little different, if I look closely, this is due to the irregular placement of the booths, so visitors don’t focus on the existing booths,” he said.
Deni hopes that cultural events will be held more often to stimulate MSME actors to continue working, creating and innovating to make souvenirs or other creative endeavors.
“We hope that the government or related agencies can increase cultural events, because with this event, businesses like ours can develop. The souvenirs we make can also be purchased as souvenirs,” he hoped.
In addition to actively participating in cultural events, Deni who is assisted by 10 members is currently managing the Wadomu Art gallery which is located in the Jalan Gerilyawan Abepura area, Kota Baru, Kota Jayapura.
