The 5.2 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Jayapura Papua, This is BMKG’s Appeal – The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.2 on Wednesday at 19.30 WIB in Jayapura Regency, Papua, due to deformation of the earth’s crust at medium depths.

The earthquake which was updated to a magnitude of 5 epicenter was located at coordinates 2.91 South Latitude and 139.6 East Longitude or precisely located on land at a distance of 99 KM north of Elelim City, Yalimo Regency, Papua, at a depth of 111 KM.

“By taking into account the location of the epicenter and the depth of the hypocenter, the earthquake occurred was a medium-sized earthquake due to deformation of the earth’s crust at medium depths,” said Head of the BMKG Earthquake and Tsunami Center, Bambang S Prayitno, in a statement in Jakarta, Wednesday (7/7). 7).

Bambang said the results of the analysis of the source mechanism showed that the earthquake had a normal fault mechanism.

The earthquake shock was felt in the areas of Wamena and Jayapura, III MMI (the vibration was felt in the house. The vibration felt as if a truck was passing).

Bambang appealed to the public to remain calm and not be influenced by issues that cannot be justified.

Residents are asked to avoid buildings that are cracked or damaged by the earthquake. “In addition, check and make sure the building where you live is earthquake-resistant enough, or there is no damage due to earthquake vibrations that endanger the stability of the buildings before you return to your house,” he said.
