Rising of Sports from Kenambai Umbai for Indonesia

goodmorningpapua.com – A District Sports Week (Porkab) II officially opened, Sunday 10 July 2022 at the Barnabas Youwe (SBY) Stadium in Sentani, Jayapura Regency. Porkab II competed in 17 sports (Cabor) which was followed by 19 districts in Jayapura Regency.

A Regent of Jayapura Regency, Mathius Awoitauw, said that through Porkab II, it becomes a forum to attract potential natural athletes to be fostered through sport science and science and technology approaches.

This event also has a target to achieve achievements at the Provincial Sports Week (Porprov) going to be held in November 2022 and at the national level, namely the National Sports Week (PON).

“This is an event that must be preserved at all times to prepare the best young athletes from Bumi Kenambai Umbai for the Papua province but also for Indonesia,” said Mathius Awoitauw.

It is said, Porkab II was delayed due to natural disasters and the epidemic that hit Jayapura Regency which grabbed attention. But the athletes continued to grow, so Porkab II became the momentum for the revival of sports from Bumi Kenambai Umbai.

Jayapura Regency is the oldest district in Papua and on this occasion there were around 1500 potential natural athletes who came from remote areas of Bumi Kenambai Umbai with their readiness.

“Sports momentum must rise because there is no other way but we must work hand in hand, both with stakeholders, the business world and society in general,” he said.

The Regent of Jayapura Regency, Mathius Awoitauw who is also the General Chair of the Jayapura Regency KONI, expressed his appreciation to all the contingents who worked hard to attend this event.

“We believe that the athletes who are present today will represent Papua in the upcoming PON, even representing Indonesia for sports. Only with art and culture can we rise from the eastern tip of Indonesia can we present unique things,” Mathius said
