goodmorningpapua.com – The condition of the Papuan land is very peaceful and to steadily develop. However, a lot of propaganda and hoaxes (fake news) are circulating that give rise to negative news related to Papuan security.
“This is very unfortunate,” said a Head of the Union of Churches in Papua Rev. Metuslah PA Mauri after the webinar with a theme “Security Conflict in Papua and its Solutions which was held by the Moya Institute, Friday (23/7/2021).
According to Mauri, all of people are truly concerned concerning with the conflict in Papua, from Sabang to Merauke, from Miangas island to Rote.
“Because we are one nation, language and soul. If anyone feels sick, everyone feels pain, even though we are different, we are still one within the framework of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI)”, said Mauri.
Mauri said that there were problems or security conflicts in Papua because of the existence of separatist groups. Under these conditions, the Indonesian National Army (TNI) and the Indonesian National Police (Polri) intervened to deal with security issues. He added that one solution is to take an inventory of problems or issues in Papua. He said that the best solution would also be to sit down together with Papuans and the resisting people. For him, these efforts can be a way to find solutions.
“We in Papua are very peaceful and love other people and live side by side together. They come from the mountains, the coast, and others. It is like Papua is a mini miniature of Indonesia, all tribes exist. Java, Bali, Maluku, Kalimantan, Sunda, Sulawesi and others. We in Papua really love and appreciate everyone coming and making peace. We hope that the government will provide teaching on citizenship such as P4 at level D (elementary school) to high school (high school) so that love for the Indonesian state to be continually instilled, “explained Mauri.
He regretted the many propaganda and hoax issues circulating in Papua. Those who enter or are consumed by propaganda are usually groups that have just been involved with politics, groups that follow politics, not know the history of Papua entering the Republic of Indonesia. Furthermore, groups that do not want to know about the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia or even the important OPM are simply “chaotic”. Outside of them, it is said that Indonesians have made it difficult for Papua.
Mauri added that people who don’t know politics have a dangerous risk, especially if they make an issue. Mauri said, it is not true for someone saying that genocide happened in Papua. The government must have the courage to counter the people who distort the news. For that, you must be wise in dealing with news on social media.
“We invite religious leaders, community leaders, traditional leaders, faith leaders to convey true information about peace and goodness in the land of Papua. We are trying to awaken people, embrace them to be able to live in peace. Papua in an effort to create peace and better development in Papua,” he concluded.
