Preparing Excellent Human Resources for Papua, Uncen Builds a Building for Science Center

goodmorningpapua.com – As a part of efforts to build excellent human resources (HR) in Papua, PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI) collaborates with Cendrawasih University in strengthening Uncen as a center of excellence.

One of the forms is the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between PTFI and Uncen regarding the commitment to build the Building of Freeport Indonesia for the Science and Partnership Center on the Cenderawasih University Campus.

“PTFI has collaborated with Uncen since 1996 through various link and match programs which include research, internships, guest lectures, and others,” said Tony Wenas, President Director of PTFI in an official release (5/4/2022).

 “This time PTFI and Uncen entered a very important milestone, where PTFI will build a lecture building on the Uncen campus which will later be used as a center for science and partnerships for students,” explained Tony Wenas.

PTFI hopes that this building can help Uncen in preparing superior human resources and young generation in Papua. The signing of the memorandum of understanding for the construction of the Uncen building was carried out by PTFI President Director Tony Wenas and Uncen Chancellor Apolo Safanpo on Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at the Hotel; Jungle Papua, Timika.

On the same occasion, a Rector of Uncen, Apolo Safanpo, believed that there were no successful companies in the midst of a failed society.

 “Freeport’s existence cannot be separated from Papua, and Freeport’s commitment to grow and develop with the Papuan people needs to be appreciated,” said Apolo. Uncen is the first higher education institution to be present in Papua and has produced thousands of graduates to date. Apolo appreciates PTFI’s support and hopes that the presence of the Freport Indonesia Building for the Science and Partnership Center can support Uncen in carrying out the tri dharma of higher education, namely education, research and community service.

PTFI development assistance for the Science Center Building will be built in the Uncen campus area, Jayapura with a green building concept that emphasizes environmentally friendly and sustainable principles. This three-story building will have a total building area of ​​2,765 square meters which is equipped with 18 classrooms, one lecturer room, an auditorium with a capacity of 230 persons, and a roof top floor as an area for placing solar panels as well as student learning materials.
