Around Lake Sentani, there is Tungkuwiri Hill or commonly called Teletubbies Hill, which is a tourism destination for athletes, officials, and guests of the National Sports Week (PON).
Teletubbies Hill is located on the western shore of Lake Sentani, in the area of Kampung Doyo Lama, Waibu District, Jayapura Regency. Called Teletubbies Hill because the green grass spreads like a rug in the Teletubbies childhood movie.
A researcher from the Papua Archaeological Center, Hari Suroto, said that access to Tungkuwiri Hill was very easy. Athletes and tourists for PON XX Papua 2021 just enter from Jalan Raya Sentani – Genyem or about 15 minutes from Sentani Airport by motorbike or car.
“In the local language, Bukit Tungkuwiri means to meet at this place,” said Hari Suroto. Tourists can enjoy the charm of Lake Sentani and the surrounding savanna from the top of Teletubbies Hill.
Near Teletubbies Hill there is also Tutari Hill. Unfortunately, the fate of Bukit Tutari was not as fortunate as Bukit Teletubbies. According to Hari, Teletubbies Hill has far more visitors than Tutar Hill. Whereas, the location of Tutari Hill is only 100 meters west of Teletubbies Hill and presents the same view.
Hari Suroto explained that Tutari Hill is also located in the same village as Teletubbies Hill, namely in Doyo Lama Village, Waibu District, Jayapura Regency, Papua. What’s interesting about this hill is that there are chunks of black stone that became a painting medium in prehistoric times.
