Papuan Indigenous Youth Meets with the Government, Requests Regional Division Accelerated

goodmorningpapua.com – The General Chair of the Papuan Indigenous Youth DPN (PAP) Jan Christian Arebo met with the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud Md this afternoon. Jan Christian emphasized that his party fully supports law enforcement against terrorists and corruption in Papua.

“Fully support law enforcement against terrorists in Papua, as well as law enforcement against corruption in Papua,” said Jan Christian Arebo in a virtual press conference on the Coordinating Ministry for Political, Legal and Security Affairs YouTube, Thursday (28/4/2022).

In addition, his party supports the government’s decision to form a new autonomous region (DOB) in Papua. This is because, as stated by  him, the policy will provide welfare for the community.

“For that, I need to say that we fully support the central government with the presence of this new autonomous region in Papua for the welfare of the Papuan people,” he said.

He hopes that the division of Papua will be accelerated so that he can deal with Papua quickly.

“We hope that the President will immediately accelerate the new autonomous regions in Papua in order to create a safe, peaceful and conducive situation in Papua, as well as to promote prosperity for the Papuan people,” he said.

“By looking at the political situation in Papua which continues to be in turmoil where terrorism continues to exist in disrupting the sovereignty of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia in Papua, we request that the new autonomous region be accelerated to stop the movement of terrorism in Papua,” he said.

Previously, the draft law or bill related to the division of Papua was approved as a bill proposed by the DPR. The approval was marked by rejection from the Democratic Party (PD) Faction.

The ratification was held at a plenary meeting, Tuesday (12/4), at the parliament complex, Senayan, Jakarta. The meeting was chaired by the Chairperson of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani.

It is known that of the nine factions in the DPR, eight factions agreed. While the rejection came from the Democratic Faction.

“Thus, the nine factions have expressed their respective factions’ opinions. Now is the time for us to ask the Honorable Council whether the proposed bill for the Commission II of the DPR RI is the Bill on the Establishment of the South Papua Province, the Bill on the Establishment of the Central Papua Province, the Bill on the Establishment of the Province of Central Papua of Central Mountains Province can be approved as a bill proposed by the DPR RI? said Mrs.

“Agreed,” said the members of the Council present.
