Papuan Harmony Cannot Be Separated from The Role of The Church

goodmorningpapua.com – A church is very important to continue in maintaining harmony, spreading peace, and contributing positively to development in Papua.

“The role of churches in Papua is very important, in motivating their congregations to maintain harmony and peace in Papua,” said a special staff to the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Maskuri Abdillah in a written statement received, Wednesday (16/2/2022).

This was conveyed by Prof. Abdillah when attending online at the Seminar and Conference of Papuan Church Leaders held in Jayapura City on 15-17 February 2022. This activity was conducted by the Fellowship of Churches in the Land of Papua (PGGP) in the context of the Day of Preaching the Gospel (HPI). ) the 167th.

“The church also provides social, humanitarian, and spiritual services and makes a positive contribution through the contribution of critical but constructive thoughts to development in Papua,” said Prof Abdillah.

He said the meeting of church leaders in Papua was very important to discuss all issues in Papua.

“This meeting is important to hold, to find out various problems in Papua, to anticipate the root of the problem, to provide concrete solutions and formulate recommendations and church actions for direction and development in Papua,” he said.

According to Prof. Abdillah, President Joko Widodo also has a commitment to advancing the Land of Papua and the welfare of its people. This is evidenced by the Special Autonomy Law and various other presidential policies.

“This is evidenced by the affirmation of Special Autonomy for Papua, both previously Law No. 21 and the amendment to Law No. 2 of 2021. It is Including the president has issued Presidential Instruction No. 9 of 2020 concerning the acceleration of welfare development in Papua and West Papua, and Presidential Decree No. 20 of 2020, regarding the integrated coordination of the acceleration of welfare development in Papua and West Papua,” he explained.

Meanwhile, a Chair of the PGGP, Pastor Hezkia Rollo appreciated the steps taken by Vice President KH Ma’ruf Amin who had collaborated with church leaders in an effort to accelerate development in Papua.

“God is good for making a kiai the vice president, so that we, many kiais in Papua, are united in one movement and we believe that development in Papua will proceed in peace and joy, because the founder and pioneer of PGGP has left. with the central theme ‘Make Papua a Land of Peace’,” said Pastor Hezkia.

Based on the direction of the Special Staff of the Vice President, for him, the recommendations from this conference will later be sent to the President and Vice President in Jakarta for later consideration of the church’s participation in development in Papua.

“The instructions from Prof. Abdillah are that the results of the seminars and conferences are able to produce recommendations to involve the church in development in Papua. So our hope is that the church will no longer be just a spectator,” he said.
