goodmorningpapua.com – The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Papua Province recorded an economic growth of 5.78 percent in the third quarter of 2022 compared to the same quarter of 2021.
The Coordinator of the Regional Balance Sheet and Statistical Analysis of the BPS Papua, Priyo Yudyatmoko said that growth was driven by the recovery of the business sector after the Covid-19 pandemic.
The business fields that experienced the highest growth were the transportation and warehousing business fields of 22.95 percent, as a result of opening all transportation access in that quarter.
“This growth is triggered by the increase in departing passengers, loading goods, land, sea and air freight services,” he explained in a release at the BPS Papua Office, Monday, November 7, 2022.
In addition to transportation and warehousing, other business fields that had the high growth were mining and quarrying business fields of 8.50 percent. Meanwhile, the electricity and gas sector is 7.09 percent.
“Papua’s economic growth in the third quarter of 2022 of 5.78 percent is the share of almost all business fields, especially mining and quarrying business fields which contribute 36.14 percent,” said Priyo.
Priyo added that the Papuan economy in the third quarter of 2022 compared to the previous quarter also experienced a contraction of 0.76 percent (q-to-q). In terms of production, mining and quarrying business fields experienced the deepest contraction of 4.32 percent.
