Papua Wins the First Gold of Kite Flying – A team of Papua won their first gold medal in the National Sports Week (PON) XX from the aerosport of kite flying, which took place on Sunday (26/9) at Yohanis Kapiyauw Air Base, Timika, Mimika Regency, Papua.

Andri Abdul Rohman won the first gold medal in the men’s precision landing schweizer SGS 126.

A Head of the Papuan Kite Flying Daily and a head coach Paul Mnusefer said it was a pride for the Papua kite flying who had presented the first gold medal for the Papuan contingent.

He said the number was a prestigious number in aerosports in kite flying. “We got a gold medal in one of the prestigious numbers in kite flying, it was the first gold medal for Papua from our athlete Andri Abdul Rohman,” said Mnusefer as quoted from the official website of PON Papua.

He is proud of the achievements of his foster children because they have won gold medals even though they did not practice too optimally during the Training Center (TC) due to the lack of training facilities.

“I am very touched and proud of this achievement, we have been training hard and have not been able to get a training place with difficult conditions, but our athletes keep practicing diligently and seriously and fighting for the name of Papua,” he said.

Kite flying of Papua also still hopes to increase the gold medal in two other numbers, namely the team and double mix numbers.

It is the number that has donated a medal for Papua at the 2016 PON XIX West Java. “We still have the men’s team number and the double mix class, which were our mainstay in West Java yesterday,” he concluded.
