goodmorningpapua.com – The Papua Peace Network (Jaringan Damai Papua /JDP) responded positively to the statement by the candidate for the Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces, General Andika Perkasa, who wanted to put forward a soft approach in dealing with security in Papua. JDP hopes that Andika is serious and actually applies this approach.
“We hope that the steps taken by General Andika Perkasa will be an important part of efforts to find the source of the conflict in Papua,” said JDP spokesman Yan Christian Warinussy in a written statement, Sunday, November 7, 2021.
Yan hopes that Andika can change the approach to security in Papua to be humanistic and prioritize dialogue. He said the Papuan people were tired of conflict and became victims. “Papuans have always been victims of being persecuted, killed, raped and even accused and investigated, so that defendants and convicts have weak facts according to law,” he said.
Previously, the Democrat Party politician, Syarif Hasan, said that the candidate for the new TNI Commander, General Andika Perkasa, would take a different approach in Papua, if he was officially elected as Commander. This was revealed by Andika while undergoing a fit and proper test at the Indonesian House of Representatives Commission I, at Nusantara 2 Building, Jakarta, Saturday, November 6, 2021.
“He will also focus on Papua. His approach will be more on the social approach, so it is all aspects. From the social approach, it will be accompanied by a legal approach. Thus, it will be more comprehensive,” said Syarif when met after the test.
Met separately, Golkar Party politician Bobby Adhytio Rizaldi, said Andika really wanted to use a more humanist approach. Although he will still send additional troops to Papua, Bobby said Andika wants to win the hearts and minds of the Papuan people.
“The approach is not like the approach we want to go to war. Because we are Indonesian people too. Win heart and mind like he said it,” said Bobby.
