goodmorningpapua.com – The City Government (Pemkot) of Jayapura, Papua Province hopes that local cultural tour guides will continually promote the 10 traditional villages in the region to attract visitors.
A Head of the Jayapura City Tourism Office Mathias Mano told goodmorningpapua.com in Jayapura, Thursday (24/11/2022), said that in the midst of heterogeneity and community development in the capital city of Papua Province, the culture of the indigenous people of ‘Port Numbay’ is increasingly being marginalized.
“So that in the future the culture of the indigenous people of Jayapura City in the traditional village needs to be introduced to the outside so that it can attract visitors to come and find out about the cultural potential that exists,” he said.
The city of Jayapura has 14 villages where 10 of them are traditional villages which must be continuously promoted.
According to Mathias, cultural tour guides are also asked to prepare tour packages for visitors, both travel agents and hotels or inns in Jayapura City.
“So we have conducted training for 50 tour guides including school children, the Jayapura City Association of Indonesian Tour Guides and local communities around tourist destinations,” he said.
He explained that his party hopes that through the training tour guides can assist the local government in providing information related to the potential for cultural tourism.
“Both the art and culture in the government-owned museum and the culture in the 10 traditional villages,” he said again.
The training for cultural tour guides conducted by the Jayapura City Government through the local Tourism Office will take place from 23 to 25 October 2022.
