goodmorningpapua.com – The Papua Provincial Government through the local Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDM) continues to monitor the condition of Earth Cenderawasih students studying in Russia. A head of BPSDM Papua Province Aryoko Rumaropen said the number of Bumi Cenderawasih students who continued their studies at universities in Russia was quite a lot.
“There are 53 active student data in Russia,” he said in Jayapura on Tuesday, March 8, 2022. According to Aryoko, this number includes 28 students who were sent for the period of December 2021, of which 14 are recipients of scholarships from the Russian government. Aryoko said that the scholarship is an educational scholarship fully endured by the Russian government while living expenses are paid for by the Papuan provincial government.
He explained that if circumtances in Russia were no longer possible for Papuan students to stay at there, the Papuan government would make every effort to repatriate students. “We also continue to coordinate with the Russian government and even with the Indonesian embassy to ensure the safety of Papuan and Indonesian students who are in Russia,” he said. In this way, Aryoko hopes that conditions in Russia will always be under control so that it does not disturbe with the education of Papuan children who are studying in Russia.
Previously, a number of Indonesian students in Russia stated that lecture activities were still running normally. Campuses in Russia still hold lectures either online or face-to-face. Even so, the impact of sanctions was felt by students, namely the increase in the price of goods to academic plans that failed due to sanctions imposed by the West on Russia.
In the academic field, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has disconnected with the research university in Russia, the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech). The decision was made because of the actions of Russia invaded Ukraine by deploying a massive military.
