goodmorningpapua.com – The Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) said that assistance for the community in Kuyawage District, Lanny Jaya Regency, Papua had arrived and began to be distributed since Monday (1/8/2022). This assistance is a quick response from the Ministry of Social Affairs to deal with the impact of hunger due to extreme weather that hit the people in the Kuyawage District.

As known, extreme weather caused crop failure so that the people of Kuyawage District were starving. After receiving this information, the Minister of Social Affairs (Mensos) Tri Rismaharini immediately ordered his staff to send aid.

“Please, send ready-to-eat food, children’s food, blankets, adult clothes, children’s clothes to Kuyawage soon,” said the Minister of Social Affairs in his statement, Thursday (28/7/2022).

Since Thursday (28/7/2022), the process of sending aid directly has been carried out from the warehouse of the Center for Social Welfare Education and Training in Jayapura Papua.

The assistance provided was in the form of 1000 packages of ready-to-eat food, 500 packages of children’s food, 500 packages of basic necessities, 2,800 kg of rice, 1000 sheets of blankets, 500 pieces of children’s clothing, 250 pieces of adult women’s clothing and 250 pieces of adult men’s clothing.

The distribution of this aid is in collaboration with several parties, namely Lanny Jaya Police Chief, Assistant 1 Kab. Lanny Jaya, and the Chairperson of the GIDI Church in the Kuyawage Region.

The first stage of transportation, namely the assistance from the Ministry of Social Affairs, was flown on Friday (29/7/2022) from Jayapura with 1 chartered plane and from Timika with 2 chartered planes.

In the second stage of transportation, on 30/7/2022, the aid was flown from Jayapura with 1 chartered plane and from Timika with 5 chartered planes.

All of these aids will be transited at the Lanny Jaya Police Headquarters on July 30, 2022 to ensure their safety. However, the aid could not be distributed immediately due to several constraints.

“The condition of landslides and muddy roads are obstacles. However, with the cooperation of the local government and the community, the obstacles can be overcome,” said the First Expert Social Worker of the PSKBA Directorate Roberto D Koibur in a statement. For the community there are no activities. It was decided that the new logistics distribution will be carried out on Monday, August 1, 2022 with the escort of the Lanny Jaya Police.

On August 1, 2022, from the Lanny Jaya Police Headquarters, aid was brought using 3 trucks belonging to the Ministry of Social Affairs and 1 truck belonging to the Regional Government to the designated meeting location (terminal).

From the terminal point, assistance can only be distributed on foot. So, the Ministry of Social Affairs coordinated with cultural and religious leaders, Reverend Lipius Biniluk to request distribution assistance.

Up to now, the Ministry of Social Affairs through the Directorate of Social Protection for Victims of Natural Disasters (PSKBA) and the Directorate of Social Protection for Victims of Social and Natural Disasters (PSKBSNA) are still at the location to ensure that aid is well received.

PSKBA Director Iyan Kusmadiana said, according to the direction of the Minister of Social Affairs, his party will continue to encourage the delivery of aid to communities affected by natural disasters in Kuyawage. Currently, the assistance has been received and felt by the local community.

In the long term, the Ministry of Social Affairs will maintain community food security, especially when facing food scarcity. For this purpose, the Ministry of Social Affairs will build social granaries in several districts in Papua.
