Ministry of PUPR Hands over Four Venues of PON XX to the Papua Provincial Government

goodmorningpapua.com – The government through the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) has accomplished the construction of fou r sports venues or arenas to support the implementation of the National Sports Week (PON) XX in Papua Province in 2021. The four sports arenas were then handed over to the Papua Provincial Government (Pemprov) on Thursday (10/6).

The such sports arenas are the Aquatic Arena and Istora of Papua Bangkit in the Kampung Harapan Sports area, East Sentani District and the Cricket Venue and Hockey Field (indoor and outdoor) at the Doyo Baru sports complex, Waibu District in Jayapura Regency. The construction of sports infrastructure to support the implementation of the Papua PON refers to the mandate of Presidential Instruction Number 10 of 2017 on Supporting for the Implementation of the National Sports Week XX and the XVI National Paralympic Week XVI 2021 in Papua Province.

The Aquatic venue has been built since December 2018 with a budget allocation of Rp 401 billion. This venue is equipped with facilities of swimming pool according to the standards of the Federation Internationale de Natation (FINA), which is the main organization of the international swimming sport. Meanwhile, Istora of Papua Bangkit began to be built in November 2018 by utilizing an area of ​​33,016 meters in the Kampung Harapan Sports area. Its construction requires a state budget of IDR 278.5 billion.

In this complex, the Main Stadium of Papua Bangkit was built that is equipped with international standard facilities and other supporting facilities, such as a training/heating field and a parking area. It is right on the 75th anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia that the structure of the Istora of Papua Bangkit building won the Indonesian World Record Museum (MURI) award for three categories at once.

Furthermore, the construction of the Cricket arena and Hockey field (indoor and outdoor) located on an area of ​​​​133,509 square meters uses a budget of Rp. 288.3 billion. The Outdoor Hockey Venue has received certification from the International Hockey Federation (FIH) on August 5, 2020, as an arena that is ready to be used for international-scale matches.

The Director General of Human Settlements (Dirjen) of the PUPR Ministry, Diana Kusumastuti, said that the handover of management was done as an effort by the PUPR Ministry so that the venue that had been finished could be immediately utilized to support the implementation of the PON XX of Papua 2021.

 “I entrust a message to my colleagues from the Papua Provincial Government to maintain, care for and manage all the assets that have been submitted as well as possible,” Diana said as quoted from the official website of the Setkab, Friday (11/6/2021).

The venue that has been handed over, he added, can be used as a training facility for Papuan athletes before the PON takes place. Even after the completion of PON, it can also be used for sports tournament activities, both at the provincial and national levels.
