goodmorningpapua.com -Vice President Ma’ruf Amin said that the government wants the acceleration of development in Papua and West Papua to focus more on the welfare approach.
He does not want the public to get a misperception and think that development in the two provinces tends to use a security approach.
“So that there is no misperception that it is as if the treatment of Papua is more of a security approach, whereas in fact we want the approach used is a welfare one,” said Ma’ruf in a virtual meeting, Wednesday (19/5/2021).
However, said Ma’ruf, the government still uses a security approach for protecting the Papuan people from disturbance by rioters or separatist movements in the region.
Later, the government labelled the Armed Criminal Group (KKB) in Papua as a terrorism movement. Ma’ruf said that these various efforts were taken only to protect the Papuan people.
“This is important so that there is no misperception that it is as if we have changed our approach,” he said.
Ma’ruf also plans to do a working visit to Papua and West Papua as soon as the action plan or the Quick Wins program is approved by President Joko Widodo. He wants programs related to the acceleration of welfare development in the two provinces to be accomplished as soon as possible before the end of his and Jokowi’s administration.
“The action plan or the Quick Wins program that is able to provide real benefits and to strengthen a mutual trust and national unity must also be accomplished before this government period ends,” said Ma’ruf.
“I don’t want anyone to be stuck or unfinished. I want everything to be cleared or yield tangible results and bring benefits and advantage to the people and the ummah,” he said.
