Lestari Moerdijat: Overcome Conflict in Papua by Prioritizing National Values

goodmorningpapua.com – The understanding of national values in Papua must be continually improved in an effort to invite the community and stakeholders on the Earth of Cendrawasih to overcome conflicts and to develop the region together.

“The various forms of violence in the form of killings, vandalism and attacks on the community and security forces in Papua are indeed very alarming. Moreover, the goal is not just to disrupt, but has led to efforts to disrupt the existence of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia,” said Deputy Chair of the MPR RI, Lestari Moerdijat in a written statement, Thursday (9/9).

On Thursday (2/9) last week, four members of the Indonesian Army were killed in an attack by an armed criminal group (KKB) in South Aifat District, Maybrat Regency, West Papua.

It is suspected that the perpetrators were KKB from outside the Maybrat Regency who terrorized the community, because they did not agree with a number of government policies related to special autonomy in Papua.

Lestari said that the repeated methods of violence in dealing with any dissent in Papua must be immediately prevented and anticipated.

Stakeholders at the central and regional levels, she added, must immediately respond to these forms of dissatisfaction through intensive dialogue to find the root of the problems delt with by the Papuan people.

The values contained in the four national consensus such as Pancasila, the 1945 Constitution, Bhinneka Tunggal Ika and the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI), stressed by the member of the NasDem Party High Council, must really be understood and practiced in the daily activities of people throughout Indonesia, including in Papua.

It is necessary to implement a comprehensive strategy in Papua, explained Rerie, so that efforts to instill national values run well and can be fully understood by the community. In addition, said Rerie, stakeholders at the central and regional levels must also be consistent in enforcing existing rules to create security and order in the easternmost part of Indonesia.

By consistently embedding national values in dealing with every nation’s problems, Rerie believes that the various challenges faced by the Indonesian people can be handled properly. Rerie really hopes that a number of incidents and conflicts that occurred in Papua can be resolved immediately by promoting the spirit of dialogue by practicing the national values, so that development on the Earth of Cendrawasih can continue for the sake of progress of Papua and integrity of the Unitary Republic of Indonesia.
