“Membership of the Papua Steering Committee as referred to in paragraph (1) is stipulated by a Presidential Decree,” reads Article 5 paragraph 3 of the Presidential Regulation.
Regarding the requirements for representatives from the Papua Province who wish to become members of the Papua Steering Committee, they may not be members of the DPR, Papuan DPR, DPD, Papuan People’s Assembly, Regency/City House of Representatives, and members of political parties. These members will have five years of service and can be extended once.
The establishment of the Steering Committee for the Acceleration of Special Autonomy Development for Papua was issued ahead of the ratification of the three New Autonomous Regions (DOB) for Papua in early November 2022.
