Jokowi: Land of Papua is Suitable for Sago, Don’t be Forced to Plant Rice – President Joko Widodo or Jokowi said that each region in Indonesia has a different character. He argued, not all can be generalized to be planted with the same plants, for example rice.

“Don’t force it because each region has a different character,” Jokowi said during a speech at the PDI-P II National Working Meeting (Rakernas), as quoted from an online broadcast, Tuesday (21/6/2022).

Jokowi also took the example in Papua. In his view, the land in Papua is suitable for growing sago. In addition, sago is also a food tradition for the eastern Indonesian people.

Therefore, Jokowi does not want that character to be lost and forced to be the same as other regions.

“Don’t force us to eat rice, eat rice, and we are forced to plant rice, to eat rice,” said Jokowi.

Jokowi believes that if coercion continues, an area will lose the power that actually becomes their original character.

“Let’s not force it to be out of its strength, its character. What’s more, if we know that sago is actually the healthiest food. Because of gluten-free does not contain gluten, it does not contain sugar. This will be pursued by other countries later. Such is what we often forget,” Jokowi emphasized.
