The DBON sports championship was officially opened by the Mimika Regency Government through the Head of the Youth and Sports Service, Jacob Toisuta together with representatives from the Indonesian Ministry of Youth and Sports as well as representatives of Forkopimda Mimika, on Monday evening, December 12 2022 at the Arrahman Multipurpose Building, Timika.

Wherein the government does not only encourage achievement sports, but more importantly is to score a healthy, fit, golden Indonesia, especially for students starting from elementary, middle and high school / vocational school.
Sport in his view is important in education, not just to improve physical or movement. But sport is also for character education.
“The character of discipline, the character of sportsmanship that loses and wins are normal, and builds cooperation for children. Then develop a sense of patriotism and nationalism,” said Poniran.
The Grand Design for National Sports, he said, is a master document that contains policy directions for fostering and fostering national sports which are carried out effectively, efficiently, superiorly, measurably, systematically, accountably, and sustainably within the scope of sports education, recreational sports, performance sports, and industry. sport.
“This is our commitment to implement DBON. Igornas, the sports teacher, is at the forefront of our children, to look for seeds, to motivate children to be smart,” he said.
DBON also aims to improve the sports culture in society, how to move people to exercise. Then also increase the capacity, synergy, and productivity of national achievement sports and advance the sports-based national economy.
“This is the Igornas we form in that context, in order to mobilize it, at least in their respective school environment and then in society,” he said.
He hopes that after 100 years of Indonesia’s independence in 2045, it is expected that the Indonesian people will live healthily, the 80 percent fitness level in Indonesia can exceed that of developed countries.
While the Chairperson of Igornas Papua, Suwandi, S.Pd., Gr, in his speech said that the DBON sports championship in 2022 was given a mandate by the Indonesian Ministry of Youth and Sport to carry it out in Mimika Regency as the host.
In this championship, three sports will be competed, namely athletics, rock climbing and badminton. These three sports are included in the 12 DBON sports which are Indonesia’s flagship going forward.
“This activity will start from 13-15 December 2022. So, we ask the relevant parties for their support to make this big activity a success,” Kelvin hoped.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Mimika Regency Youth and Sports Office, Jacob Toisuta, representing an Acting Regent of Mimika, said that the Mimika Regency Government fully supports this championship as well as DBON which will be a future government program.
