goodmorningpapua.com – The Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) for the Papua Region ceased all of health services in the Kiwirok, Oksibil, and Bintang Mountains areas, Papua, until the government guaranteed security for the health workers on duty.
A Head of IDI Papua Region Donald Aronggear said his organization had sent a letter to the Governor of Papua asking for security guarantees for health workers after the assault allegedly carried out by the Armed Criminal Group (KKB). However, so far there has been no response.
“We hope that soon there will be a response from the provincial and central governments for handling this problem, so that activities for serving the community, especially in isolated areas can be immediately resumed, and people who need immediate health care can be handled,” Donald said in a written statement, Sunday, September 19, 2021.
The attack on health workers occurred as a result of the conflict between the apparatus and the KKB in Kiriwok District, Gunung Bintang Regency, Papua on Monday, September 13 2021. A number of health workers were injured and some even vanquished.
Donald reported that nine health workers in the Kiwirok district were victims of the attack. They are Restu Pamanggi, Marselinus Ola Attanila, Manuel Abi, Martinus Deni Satya, Lukas Luji, Patra, Siti Khodijah, Katrianti Tandila, and Christina Sampetonapa.
All of them have been evacuated to Jayapura and are currently under medical and psychological treatment for the trauma they experienced. “The condition of Doctor Restu Pamanggi who suffered a fracture in his hand has been operated on and is in the medical recovery process while undergoing a psychological examination for mental recovery,” said Donald.
Meanwhile, the body of Gabriela Meilani, a health worker who passed away as a result of the attack, has been lifted from a ravine and placed in a nearby shelter in Kiwirok while waiting for evacuation. “The process of evacuating the bodies by TNI helicopters is hampered by unfavorable weather and shootings,” said Donald.
