goodmorningpapua.com – The Ministry of Agriculture launched the Millennial Farmers Movement Program with the Millennial Presidential Special Staff, Billy Mambrasar at the Swisbel Hotel, Manokwari, Thursday (20/5). Minister of Agriculture Syahrul Yasin Limpo in his speech via virtual video said that the program included in the action plan to accelerate the development of Papua and West Papua Provinces in accordance with Presidential Instruction No. 9 of 2020.
“This is a manifestation of Mr. President Joko Widodo’s seriousness to accelerate development and prosperity in Papua and West Papua,” he said.
According to him, the Millennial Farmer Program is not only carried out in Papua and West Papua but also in Aceh, North Sumatra, West Java, Central Java, East Java, Central Kalimantan, South Sulawesi, NTT, Papua and West Papua.
“The target of this program is the creation of 100,000 Millennial Farmers in 10 Provinces by providing a training in stages, including technology capital, the ability to do business and UMKM, and the ability to become exporters of commodity , which will be supported by inter Ministries and other Institutions,” explained the Minister of Agriculture.
In line with the Minister of Agriculture SYL, a Special Staff for President of the Republic of Indonesia Billy Mambrasar, who has been actively assisting the technical team for accelerating the development of Papua and West Papua together with the Papua Bappenas Desk, said that the Millennial Farmers Program is a manifestation of President Jokowi’s commitment to accelerate OAP welfare-based development in Papua.
According to Billy, the launch of this program was responded enthusiastically by the youth of Papua origin. The reason is, since it was launched by the Governor by distributing the registration link online, it has recorded that approximately 1023 people have registered themselves to become Millennial Farmers in just a few hours.
The Governor of West Papua Province responded positively to the launch of this program and expressed his full support. He hoped that in the future more Papuan youths and girls will be involved in the agricultural sector.
Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the agricultural sector is still the largest employer of labour, reaching almost 24% of the approximately 400 thousand workforce in this province.
The Millennial Farmers Program was launched by the Ministry of Agriculture and the West Papua Provincial Government, attended by Special Staff to the President of the Republic of Indonesia Billy Mambrasar, a member of DPD RI, Yance Samonsabra, Coordinator of the Papua Desk of the Ministry of Bappenas RI, Aruminingsih, Regent Manokwari, Hermus Indou, and the ranks of the SKPD of the West Papua Province.
