Government has Commitment to Boost MSME Growth in Papua

goodmorningpapua.com – The government is committed to boost local Papuan Micro Small Medium Enterprises (UMKM/UMi) to grow and develop.

This was emphasized by the Minister of the Ministry of Communication and Information, Johnny G. Plate in his virtual speech at the end of event of the Gerakan Nasional Bangga Buatan (Gernas BBI) with the theme “Binar Digital Papua” at Cenderawasih Sports Center, Jayapura, Papua.

The land of Papua, which stretches out in the easternmost region of Indonesia, is seen by Johnny as containing a variety of natural beauty and fascinating cultural richness.

This condition makes Papua save a lot of potential that can be superior in the fields of fashion, culinary, and crafts.

“In the midst of the momentum of national economic growth which reached 5.44 percent (year on year/yoy) in the second quarter of this year, MSMEs/UMi need to continue to be encouraged for their growth,” said Minister of Communications and Informatics Johnny.

This condition is also what prompted the government to choose Jayapura City as the host of the Indonesian-made Proud Peak entitled “Digital Binar Papua”.

The event will also encourage MSME/UMi actors in Papua to remain adaptive in the current pandemic era.

“Since May 2020, Mr. President Joko Widodo inaugurated Gernas BBI which is a form of Government support for domestic products, especially MSME/UMi products so that they are able to compete during the COVID-19 pandemic,” said the Minister of Communication and Information.

For this reason, the Minister of Communication and Information emphasized that Gernas BBI has a mission to encourage branding strengthening and the use of digital technology for local artisan products, as well as encouraging consumers to buy domestic MSME/UMi products.

The top event of the Gernas BBI “Binar Digital Papua” was enlivened by an exhibition of MSME products, Papuan cultural dance performances, Papuan artists, fashion shows, the inauguration of the Papua Digital Binar, and others.

The Papuan Coffee Festival initiated by Bank Indonesia (BI) also enlivened the peak of Gernas BBI in front of the Cenderawasih Gymnasium, Jayapura. The festival was taking place from 23-27 August 2022.
