goodmorningpapua.com – The Le Soleal cruise ship anchored at the Jayapura Port in Papua on Tuesday, October 4, 2022. The French-flagged ship was carrying as many as 201 foreign tourists from France and England.
A Head of PT Pelni Jayapura, Wendy R Imkotta, said the yacht arrived at around 6:45 WIT. Previously the ship sailed from Nabire and would stop for seven hours in Jayapura.
According to Imkotta, the tourists will visit the Kalkote and Asei areas around Lake Sentani, Jayapura Regency. Kalkote is famous for its beautiful beaches, while Asei is famous for its bark paintings.
After visiting a number of tourist attractions around Jayapura Regency, the tourists returned to the ship to continue the journey to Wewak Papua New Guinea.
Wendy hopes that the arrival of the French-flagged ship will make more yachts enter the Port of Jayapura. “Hopefully there will be more cruise ships that bring tourists to Jayapura after being stopped due to the outbreak of Covid-19 cases,” he said.
This is in line with what the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno wants to increase the number of cruise ship tourists to Indonesia. For him, the market potential is quite large and has not been fully exploited. “We can direct these cruise tourists to visit destinations and be offered products for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs),” he said.
