For the First Time, 77- Meter-Long Red and White Flag Stretched on Fani Island, Indonesia’s Outermost Island – An Acting Governor of West Papua, Komjen Pol (Purn) Drs. Paulus Waterpauw, M.Si,  led the instilling of the 77-meter-long Red and White Flag on Fani Island, Raja Ampat Regency.

The action was accompanied by the West Papuan Police Chief and the XVIII Kasuari Regional Military Commander as well as the leaders of regional apparatus organizations (OPD) and the local community.

The national agenda as well as history was carried out in commemoration of the 77th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia.

The acting governor explained that all parties are obliged to maintain the sovereignty of the state together with the people, including on the outer islands. He explained that Fani Island is a state portico in West Papua which borders the State of Palau.

“The porch of the state cannot be empty, completely within the framework of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI). Today, we declare the state to be here (Fani Island). As a state apparatus, a tool for maintaining sovereignty with the community. This island is not empty, but belongs to the beloved country and nation of Indonesia,” said the acting governor, Saturday, August 13, 2022.

The Acting governor is sure that what he did today can inspire the whole community.

“The most important task at this time is to maintain an independence, no longer use weapons against the enemy. What exists today cannot be separated from the struggle of our predecessors with sweat, blood and tears,” he said.

A Deputy Regent of Raja Ampat Regency, Orideko Iriano Burdam, S.IP., MM said the government exists to protect the sovereignty of the country. “The footholds on the outer islands are proof of commitment to love for the nation and state. This series aims to foster and inspire the spirit of nationalism,” he explained.
