Establishment of the Papua Okmin University, a Spring for Human Resource Development in Papua – The Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology has granted an operational permit for the establishment of the Papua Okmin University through the Decree of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia Number 344/E/O/2021 concerning the Permit for the Establishment of the Papua Okmin University in the Bintang Mountains Regency, Papua Province Organized by the Okmin Papua Education Foundation.

At the inauguration ceremony of the Papua Okmin University, on Tuesday (17/8), Acting Director General of Higher Education, Research, and Technology (Dirjen Diktiristek), Nizam revealed that he really supports and appreciates the initiative of the Bintang Mountains Regent in education development in Indonesia. With the issuance of the operational permit of the Papua Okmin University, Nizam hopes that the university can contribute to develop superior human resources for the Papuan people, especially the Bintang Mountains Regency and the surrounding area.

Nizam also reminded Okmin University lecturers to participate in developing community service, research and focus on developing potential in the region. In addition, he invited lecturers to interpret the establishment of Okmin University as an important historical step for the people in the Bintang Mountains and to make today a new page for the progress of Papua in the future, especially in the Bintang Mountains.

Meanwhile, the Regent of the Bintang Mountains, Spei Yan Bidana, said that Papuan’s dreams and hopes will come true with the inclusion of higher education in Papua. He added that the presence of Okmin University in Papua was a gift in the context of the 76th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia for Papua and could be a milestone in the progress of education. He also hopes that students who will take the path at the Papua Okmin University will someday become national leaders in the progress of the nation.

The Special Staff for the Papuan Star Mountains Regent, Yohannes Sardjono, hopes that with the existence of the Papua Okmin University in remote areas, the human development index, which is currently the lowest position among 34 other provinces, can be boosted up.

Yohannes also revealed that 100 hectares of land and 10 hectares have been provided for the integrated campus. Then a state budget of 2.1 trillion has been prepared through the Presidential Staff Office for the construction of campus in 2022.
