Esports Officially Becomes an Exhibition Sport at PON Papua – The upcoming Papua National Sports Week (PON) XX 2021 will certainly be different from before. For at the PON Papua, esports is being competed for the first time as an exhibition sport.

“This is the first time in history that esports has been included in the PON series,” said PBESI Daily Chairn of General Commissioner Bambang Sunarwibowo, Wednesday (18/8). The Esports Exhibition for PON XX of Papua 2021 will compete in three branches of the game, namely eFootball PES 2021, Mobile Legends, and Free Fire.

He hopes that the inclusion of esports in PON will provide an opportunity for lovers of this sport to compete and bring the big names of their respective regions. In addition, this moment is a place for PBESI to monitor the seeds of potential athletes scattered in Indonesia.

The government through the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora) and the National Sports Committee (KONI) stated that esports has officially become a sport for achievement with the joining of the Indonesian Esports Executive Board (PBESI). PBESI is led by General Pol (P) Prof. Dr. Budi Gunawan, SH, M.Si as general chairman.

Later, the best esports athletes in the Esports Exhibition for PON XX of Papua 2021 will have the opportunity to undergo a training camp at the National Training Center and be coached directly by PBESI. They will be prepared to participate in international esports tournaments and represent Indonesia to participate in multi-event championships, such as the Sea Games, Asian Games, and others.

On the same occasion, PBESI will also release a special digital platform managed to promote esports in the country, named Garudaku. In the Esport Exhibition for PON XX of Papua 2021 , this digital platform which is officially under the auspices of PBESI was introduced for the first time and used in organizing the 2021 PON XX Papua . Garudaku will be used from the registration process to the technical implementation of the Esports Exhibition for PON XX  of Papua 2021. This application can be accessed via garudaku(dot)com/pon.

A Secretary General of PBESI Frengky Ong added, for the registration stage, prospective participants must register on the Garudaku platform. The registration stage will be open since August 18, 2021. Participants participating must represent their own regions according to the area of ​​domicile on the KTP or KIA. After registration is closed, the next stage is the qualifying round which will be held August 26-September 5, 2021. Especially for eFootball PES 2021 will be divided into 6 groups.

This provincial qualifying round is open and held virtually. In this round, the best athlete or team will be sought from each category. The best athletes or teams in each province will compete in the Pre-PON event which will be held on 7-14 September 2021.

The Pre-PON round will confront participants from 33 provinces randomly and conducted online. They will compete for the 11 best Free Fire teams, the 5 best Mobile Legends teams and the five best eFootball PES 2021 players. Regarding funding, he continued, the organization of the games in the Esports Exhibition for PON XX of Papua 2021 was carried out independently from each game publisher. So that each game publisher is responsible for their respective products.
