Electricity Restoration After Disaster in Jayapura City Reaches 97 Percent

goodmorningpapua.com – PT PLN (Persero) acted quickly to restore the electricity system in Jayapura, affected by the flood which damaged the substations and electricity infrastructure in Jayapura.

A General Manager of PLN Main Unit for Papua and West Papua Region, Abdul Farid explained the impact of rainstorms and strong winds caused flash floods and landslides on Thursday, January 6, 2022.

A total of 225 officers were deployed. Until Sunday, January 9, 2022, at 19.00 WIT, 290 electricity substations from a total of 297 affected substations have been successfully restored.

He explained that his party is trying as much as possible to restore the electricity system in Jayapura and its surroundings.

“Until Sunday, the progress has reached 97 percent. A total of 7 substations are still being restored by our officers in the field. This is due to the substation that is still submerged by the flood,” added Farid.

Currently, there are still 3 locations affected by flooding, which are in the process of normalizing waiting for the water to recede:

  • Location of Jayapura Regency: BTN Gajah Mada Sentani, Nimbokrang and Kampung Ayapo.
  • Abepura Location: Part of the Organda Dalam Complex.

“I apologize for this inconvenience. For the time being, we have not been able to turn on the electricity in these locations. We are trying to restore electricity supply for customers,” said Abdul Farid.

He urged to the public to be always alert amid the intensity of the rain and the potential dangers of extreme weather.

“For the community, don’t be near power lines, substations, PJU panels or trees that have the potential to collapse when extreme weather occurs,” he added.
