Consistency of Muhammadiyah Papua in the ‘Middle Way’ Through Educational Institutions

goodmorningpapua.com – A Minister of Trade Zulkifli Hasan said he admired Muhammadiyah’s consistency in fighting for the values of the ‘middle way’. As stated by him, the value of the ‘middle way’ implemented by Muhammadiyah is reflected in its charitable efforts through educational and health institutions.

According to Zulkifli Hasan (Zulhas), Muhammadiyah schools and universities have never been selective about students based on ethnic or religious background. He emphasized that one of the real examples of Muhammadiyah’s middle way is the existence of the Muhammadiyah University of Sorong.

“There has never been a story about Muhammadiyah being picky about students because they are non-Muslim, because of ethnicity, especially because of skin color. Anyone who wants to study at Muhammadiyah University is welcome, as long as they comply with applicable regulations,” said Zulhas during a dialogue with Muhammadiyah University students and academics. Sorong, in a statement, Wednesday (21/12/2022).

This Minister of Trade considered Muhammadiyah University of Sorong to be one of the best universities in Southwest Papua. Zulhas also motivated Sorong Muhammadiyah University students to have fighting spirit, be tough, and have a vision for the future.

“You can study at a good university, for that you have to take advantage of it, you have to have fighting spirit, you have to be tough, and you have vision. Those who have a vision of their days must be productive, “he said.

Zulhas had been optimistic that if education in Sorong progresses, the future for Sorong, Southwest Papua, and even Indonesia in the future will also be bright. “The future of Southwest Papua and even Papua in general is in the hands of future generations, being smart is not enough, we also have to have a fighter’s mentality,” said Zulhas

The General Chairperson of the National Mandate Party (PAN) DPP said that the values upheld by Muhammadiyah are also associated with God’s law, which is for him is certain. Namely, those who study seriously and work hard will be successful.

“Don’t forget, God’s law is certain, whoever studies diligently, works hard, works smart, and is diligent, he will win the battle. Of course this must also be followed by praying to the Almighty,” said Trade Minister Zulhas.
