Chico: A Firts Papuan Achieves a World Tour Champion

goodmorningpapua.com – An Indonesian Single, Chico Aura Dwi Wardoyo, recorded a new history in his career. For the first time, Chico won the BWF World Tour.

Today (10/7), Chico won the Malaysia Masters 2022. Competing at the Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur, Chico defeated the eighth champion from Hong Kong, Ng Ka Long, in straight games, 22-20 and 21-15.

This title is very special. Apart from being the first trophy, Chico was only a substitute in the Super 500 tournament. Chico entered the main draw by replacing Danish third seed Anders Antonsen who resigned.

However, Chico’s performance was extraordinary throughout the 2022 Malaysia Masters. From the first round to the final, Chico beat all the players with higher rankings. Including defeating the sixth champion and his compatriot, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting in the quarter-finals.

“It was a little tense when I entered the field, but Alhamdulillah I was able to handle it. Finally able to play enjoy and relax on the field. In the first game the points were tight, I focused point by point and at the critical point, I tried to be consistent with my playing pattern,” said Chico as quoted from the PP PBSI press release.

“In the second game, the opponent didn’t seem comfortable with the wind winning conditions, so I took advantage of that opportunity,” he continued.

In addition to his first title in the BWF World Tour Super 500, Chico also made history by becoming the first Papuan player to win the World Tour title.

Chico also dedicates this title to all those who have supported him.

“I want to dedicate this title to my parents, mom, dad, brother and sister. All family. PBSI too of course. Thank you to coach Irwansyah, Koh Jonatan (Christie), Aa Ginting (Anthony Sinisuka), Mas Vito (Shesar Hiren), and all the men’s singles team,” said the player who was born in Jayapura, June 15, 1998.

“For the people of Indonesia, especially Papua, thank you for your prayers and support so far. Hopefully what I have achieved can be a motivation and inspiration for the children there,” said Chico.
