BMKG Info: Prospect of Wave Height for a Week in Papua, August 16-22, 2021

goodmorningpapua.com – The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has released the prospect of a week’s wave height in Papua, from Monday (16/8/2021) to Sunday (22/8/2021).

Based on information from the BMKG Regional V Jayapura Center, from August 16 -18, 2021, the wave height category ranged from 0.25 to 1.25 meters in the waters of Biak, Cenderawasih Bay, Agatas Amamapare Waters, Yos Sudarso Waters and Merauke Waters.

Furthermore, on August 19-22, 2021, the wave height category ranges from 0.25-1.25 meters in the northern Pacific Ocean of Biak, Biak Waters, Jayapura North Pacific Ocean, Jayapura-Sarmi Waters, Agats-Amamapare Waters, Yos Sudarso Waters, and Merauke Waters.

Next, the wave height category ranges from 1.25-2.50 meters on 16 to August 18, 2021, in the northern Pacific Ocean of Biak, the northern Pacific Ocean of Jayapura, the waters of Jayapura-Sarmi.

On 19-22 August 2021, the wave height category is 1.25-2.50 meters in the eastern Arafuru Sea, the Aru Islands, the southern Arafuru Sea in Merauke, and the eastern Arafuru Sea.

Furthermore, on August 16 – 18, 2021, the category of wave heights ranging from 2.50 to 4.00 meters is expected to occur in the eastern Arafuru Sea, the Aru Islands, the southern Arafuru Sea in Merauke, and the eastern Arafuru Sea.

An advice about safety also applies to fishing boats, barges, ferries and large vessels like a cargo ships/cruise ships.

Please notice the risk of high waves to the safety of the sailing.

For fishing boats, the wind speed is more than 15 knots and the wave height is above 1.25 meters.

Next, Barges, wind speed more than 16 knots and wave height above 1.5 meters.

Ferry ship, wind speed more than 21 knots and wave height above 2.5 meters. Furthermore, for large ships such as Cargo Ships/Cruises, the wind speed is more than 27 knots and the wave height is above 4.0 meters.
