Being Officially a New Province, this is the Profile of South Papua

goodmorningpapua.com – President Joko Widodo has signed Law (UU) Number 14 of 2022 which regulates the formation of the province of South Papua on July 25, 2022. Reported from a copy of the Law which has been uploaded on the official website of the State Secretariat, Friday (29/7/2022), The capital city of South Papua Province is Merauke. Then, this province consists of four regencies, namely Merauke Regency, Boven Digoel Regency, Mappi Regency, and Asmat Regency.

Then, South Papua Province has the following regional boundaries: in the north it is bordered by Nduga Regency, Yahukimo Regency, and Bintang Mountains Regency, the east is bordered by the State of Papua New Guinea, the south is bordered by the Arafura Sea, the west is bordered by Mimika Regency and the Aru Sea.

The affirmation of the exact boundaries of the South Papua region in the field as referred to is stipulated by a Regulation of the Minister of Home Affairs. Then, in the attachment to the Act, it is also stated that there are a number of islands that are included in the territory of the Province of South Papua. The details are Binar Island, Fumirpits Island, Lang Island, and Somerwoo Island in Asmat Regency. Subsequently, there is Habe Island, Kolepom Island and Komelom Island in Merauke Regency.
