The potential of these Papuan children was seen directly by the Teleent Scouting Team or the Talent Guiding Team from the Executive Board of the All-Indonesia Athletics Association (PB PASI) during the Energen Champion SAC Indonesia event.
According to Enough Pahalawidi, the PB PASI Talent Guidance Team, this event succeeded in discovering the potential that exists in Papua. Moreover, Papua has been quite well known for the potential of its athletes from both soccer and athletics.
“Hopefully, these champions can be developed. Because automatically the potential is good, it’s just how we manage it,” said Pahalawidi when met after the Energen Champion SAC Indonesia event at Mimika Sport Complex, Sunday (9/10/2022).
For him, Papua is actually one of the projections of PB PASI looking for the seeds of athletes in athletics to be brought to the world or international level, because the previous generation of Papua was very good. Therefore, with this event, we can find the next generations of Papuans who can take part in bringing the name of Papua and Indonesia to good.
“So here we find some athletes, such as yesterday’s 800 meter run, that has great potential. Not only high, his running potential is also good. Same with running 100 meters (sprint). So, almost everything is good, only later how will it be managed,” he said.
Talent scouting will then project the anthropometry or body size of the seeds that have been found in the Energen Champion SAC Indonesia Papua Qualifiers event.
So far, the state has the running athletes like, M. Lalu Zohri and Surya Agung. It turns out that when compared both only limited to the shoulder. So for international champions, the potential is very small.
“With this event, the scattered potentials can be gathered, can be seen, and we will continue with the existing coaching. Moreover, there is a center here, hopefully this will be supported by having this event every year,” said Enough Pahalawidi.
“This is our hope from PB PASI, preferably from Papua to prepare a team to prepare children who have been registered to become champions in this event,” he concluded.
