goodmorningpapua.com – A Chancellor of the University of Cenderawasih (Uncen) Apolo Safanpo mentioned the need for better values education to establish the future Papuan leaders. He conveyed this in a national seminar entitled Papua Now and Later which was held by online, Saturday (14/8/2021).
He believes, if a leader has values in the form of honesty, justice, discipline, responsibility, consistent commitment, respect and respect for others, that person can be a good leader. These values are obtained through value education. “But at this time, all educational institutions steadily compete in pursuing science and technology,” he said.
Apolo said scientists believe that science, technology and skills cannot be pursued because they will develop. Therefore, educational institutions should not direct their focus only to master science and technology.
“In fact, the goals of national education have been written in Law Number 20 of 2003 concerning the National Education System,” he said.
The main goal of national education, said Apollo, is to produce people who believe and fear God, have noble character, have high skills and knowledge and knowledge.
These aspects must be owned by Indonesian graduates, especially those of Cenderawasih University graduates who will become Papuan leaders in the future. Therefore, Apolo emphasized that educational institutions should pay attention to the balance of values education, science education and skills education when preparing learning curricula. “This national education goal must be translated into its curriculum. We have to pay attention to what goals we want to achieve (through education),” he said.
In his opinion, leaders will be chosen not because of high knowledge or skills, but because of the good values a person has. “If the leader is fair, the turmoil in society will be reduced,” said Apollo.
