4 Facts about UIP, the First International-Level Campus in Papua

The opening of this campus is based on the Decree of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia Number 24/E/O/2022 concerning the Permit for Establishment of the Papua International University, Monday (14/2/2022).

1. It has 2 excellent faculties and an international Research Center.

The Papua International University (UIP) has two excellence faculties, namely the Faculty of Science and Technology and the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education. To support student learning facilities, this campus also has an international-scale Research Center.

2. Teachers from Papua and abroad

The UIP campus promises to bring in the best teachers from Papua and from abroad. These teachers are said to have teachers with scientific backgrounds that match the needs of UIP as an acceleration of progress in the Land of Papua.

3. Features of technology in Education

A chairman of the MPR RI, Bambang Soesatyo [Bamsoet], said that the presence of this university helped the government reduce the cost of studying abroad because it could be turned to study at the Papua International University.

“Given that the learning method at the Papua International University has been adapted to international higher education qualifications. It is among others,  by means of the application of an international standard TKBEL education platform application,” explained Bamsoet in his statement, Monday (14/2/2022).

For campuses and learning centers, TKBEL can also help manage subject schedules, save and manage lessons in audio and PDF formats, as well as attendance lists and documents. TKBEL was founded by Haim Berkovits (CEO), David Chouraqui (CFO), and Samuel Tabuni (CTO). Samuel Tabuni is also the CEO and Director of the Papua Language Institute (PLI) and the Maga Education Papua Foundation which oversees the International University of Papua.

4. Study on campuses at home and abroad

Bamsoet said the Papua International University also ensures compliance with international higher education qualifications through a partnership system with overseas campuses.

“So students study for two years at the Papua International University. Followed by two years of education at other foreign universities,” explained Bamsoet in his statement, Monday (14/2/2022).

“Through the Papua International University, it is hoped that a young generation of the nation will be born who are not only competent and skilled academically, but also have a strong character, have a Pancasila spirit and an Indonesian heart,” he said. It is better to build a strong foundation regarding the values ​​of local wisdom and national insight. He hopes that when they continue their education at partner campuses abroad, Papuan students will not forget their Indonesian cultural identity.
