1,436 Papuan Students Receive Scholarships from the Government

goodmorningpapua.com – The Papuan Provincial Government provides scholarships again for 1,436 Papuan students at various universities and colleges. They are scattered in various districts and cities in Papua.

A Special Staff of the Governor of Papua for Special Autonomy, Triwarno Purnomo, said the scholarship was given as an effort to accelerate the accomplishment of studies. The scholarships, he continued, were given through the Papua Province Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDM).

“Many students have quite good academic abilities, but they have to try hard to find additional work as labors to pay for their education.

“Besides that, they also come from poor families,” said Triwarno, after arriving at the State Building, Jayapura City, Thursday (2/8/2021).

He conveyed that this condition made the Governor of Papua, Lukas Enembe concerned, so he took a policy to provide scholarships for these thousands of students.

“We all have a responsibility to help our children. Therefore, today an agreement is signed between the Governor and the Chancellors of the University and the Head of the High School and the Director of the Polytechnic,” he said.

Meanwhile, a Head of BPSDM Papua Province, Aryoko Rumaropen, explained that most of the students receiving scholarships were in the City and Regency of Jayapura.

The details; 100 students at the University of Ottow Gleisser, 200 students at the Gidi Papua Theological College, and 100 students at Yapis University.

“There are also 137 professions of physician and nine undergraduate education students for lecturers at Cendrawasih University, then 33 students at the Indonesian Cultural Arts Institute and others,” he explained.

Rumaropen added that the Papuan government had provided scholarships for 1,884 people from 2012 to 2020.

The goal is to increase the competitiveness of human resources, especially Papuan People (OAP).

“1.156 of them are recipients of scholarships studying in the country with study locations in 19 cities in Indonesia,” he said.

“While the other 688 students are recipients of study abroad scholarships, in 15 countries at 160 universities.
